I love blackberries and I hate blackberries.

The fact is that blackberries don’t like to be touched and so the picking is a painful job or a hot one. Either the vines attack you or you are dressed so well that you swelter in the heat. However the end result; berries in your favorite foods, is absolutely worth the heat or the scratches.

Here I will give you a great recipe for a simple smoothie and if you have a high speed blender you won’t even find any of the seeds back. The color will end up a brownish purple, but the flavour is wonderful and it will fill you up and serve as a meal.

  • 1 large handful of spinach
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 1/4 – 1/2 avocado
  • 1 – 1 1/2 cup water or nut milk of your choice

Put all the ingredients in your blender and process.

The banana and the avocado will create a smooth texture and soften the tardness that blackberries can have. Play with the amounts to make it the way you like it best.

Most berries are low in calories and blackberries are no exception. Half a cup is only 35 calories and has a whopping 4 grams of fiber.  Fiber helps eliminate cholesterol and keeps you regular. This smoothie gives you just about 17 grams of fiber in one meal (about 50% of your recommended daily intake) and is high in vitamin A, C and manganese.
